Hello Opponaughts!!!

Can someone run a Carfax? 1FMZU77E92UB43218 is the VIN. I am possibly looking at buying a 2002 Sport Trac from an auction. It will probably be more reliable than my 2012 Outback and my wife’s 2015 Impreza at the moment.

Kinja'd!!!

Thanks for you time Opponaughts, here is a righteous Sport Trac for your time

Take a good look at the shortcomings of that engine. I believe that you have to remove it to service the timing chain. I had considered a high mileage  hand me down Explorer of that vintage but walked due to the potential surprises. The “Exploder” nickname did not happen without some reason.

That’s gonna be a solid nope for me. There is a reason there aren’t many left on the roads. More like F ord Explorer Short Trac

What? S ubaru reliability is meeting expectations! BTW, my 2013 Outback has been trouble free since they replaced the engine wiring harness about 1 year ago.

My next car will be a Mazda or Toyota.

Oh yikes, I didn’t know that, and I had a 4.0 SOHC Explorer for 9.5 years.

That seems to be how it goes though; they either fail and cause interference somewhere under 100k miles or they just keep going until the rest of the vehicle falls apart. That one that I was offered had over 200k on it and I didn’t even want to take it and  flip it.

I’ll suggest this. Years ago I found a similar Outlander for a co-worker and he loves it. No problems and no particular rust at about 160,000 miles.

I got rid of mine with ~126k on it, I think the engine was fine. It died on me on the highway at 80 MPH one time, but I think it was a sensor or something. It restarted after several tries.

my 2003 sport trac ate a timing chain guide rail which did not go well for the rest of my motor.
